Tiger Jump at Waterhole – Breathtaking Wildlife Action

Tiger Jump Water Hole Ranthambore.

Tiger Jump at Waterhole – Breathtaking Wildlife Action. This is tiger jump was shot some years ago in Ranthambore National Park. It was early morning while the sun had just risen. I still remember the morning. The place was just out of a jungle book scene with lush green jamun trees, spectacular rocky terrain and water holes. Ranthambore has some very beautiful scenery. The scenery would make any one jump out their place in amazement. On top of that we soon found three sub-adult tigers who were enjoying the morning. This tiger was sitting peacefully below in the ravine at a distance in front of us. There was another tiger, his sibling on the other side of my vehicle. The third sibling came later after this scene got over from behind. We parked our vehicle and were still struggling to decide which tiger to photograph. The scene on this tiger didn’t have great light compared to the one behind my vehicle. Suddenly I saw this one get up and walk near the edge of this water hole. It was clear which one I was shooting. I quickly picked and focused my 600mm lens on this guy anticipating the tiger might jump. Before realising, in a flash he just jumped over the water hole and disappeared in the grass. The moment was over in just few seconds and some shooting the other tiger may have missed it. Tiger Action shots are rarely seen and special. I checked my camera lcd to make sure and was happy to see I got the peak moment along with some other sequence of frames. We later photographed the other siblings in great light. They seem to each have their own pools to sit.

Tiger Photography: Capturing the Peak of the Moment.

Some days are simply satisfying. Tiger Sightings like these are what I look forward in a trip. One such sighting is much better than mediocre sightings every safari. I ll try post the other sibling later, If you follow me on my FB page or Instagram then you might have seen the Tiger on Rocks already, yes it was my fb cover photo for some time.

The problem with this image is the difficult lighting. I have processed this image many times trying to get the feel just like it was in my mind. This is the best till now. Shot with a Nikon D4s + nikkor 600mm lens on bean bag.
Processed the Raw image in CaptureOne20 (new 23 version maybe little better). Sharpened it in TopazPhotoAI, I have found this  quite usefull for sharpening and noise reduction.
